Last week we had a jam-packed week of awards, where we recognised different achievements at UWL, all of which contribute to our amazing community.
Here are some of the quotes from our attendees:
IMPACT AWARDS
Impact Awards ran for the first time ever this year and we loved the opportunity to give course reps, student staff, apprentices and the doctoral community a night of their own to celebrate their commitment.
"This university has been like a home away from home for me"
- Siddharth Sehtya, course rep of the year for the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism
"I'd like to thank all of the incredible staff who are at our school, who have always been very intentional about listening and making sure that anything we feed back is listened to and taken into consideration"
- Elliott Haxton, course rep of the year for Drama Studio London
"I wanted to thank the graduate school for all their help in regards to helping me create events for the PHD students"
- Marisha David, best representative of the Doctoral Community
UNION AWARDS
Union Awards were as energetic as ever, with societies and sports teams coming together to celebrate their achievements throughout the year. The winners of the awards were chosen based on how heartfelt the external judges felt nominations were.
"In this university, we are one of the biggest communities. I want to thank my committee members who worked hard to recruit new members at events and refreshers"
- Nepalese Society
"This award is dedicated to the Rugby team, these boys put in a massive effort for the year. Big things for next year!"
- Theo Szweda, Rugby
"It has been an honour to lead the ATAL society for this year, organising events and getting people to socialise"
- Nicoletta Scurtu, ATAL (computing) society
STAR AWARDS
At this year's STAR awards, UWL staff members won awards based on nominations from students who had identified them as people that went above and beyond in their support or teaching. This was a heartwarming evening, where staff could hear some of the positive messages written about them and celebrate their achievements.
"Lecturers and students -we're a partnership. We can't do our job, they can't do their job, if we don't work together"
- Alison Hawkings, Lecturer of the year for London School of Film, Media and Design
"It's my 10th anniversary working at UWL. I am so incredibly proud of this institution, it is one of the highlights of my career. It will be my last job, but it's the best job I've ever done"
- Paul Byrne, winner of the President's Award
"Thank you to all my students. To think ten years ago, I was here as an international student and didn't really believe in myself and everyone around me encouraged me. Now I am here, I get to encourage students to believe in themselves"
- Martina Mulinari, best support staff winner
