Coping with Homesickness

After Freshers, your VP of Education, Ayan, went around and asked students to share how they cope with homesickness. Hopefully, these tips can help someone who is struggling by following advice from other’s experiences...

Ayan reading through students' tips

“Video call your parents often. Hang out with your friends. Indulge in craft activities. You can do it!”

“One of the best tips for homesickness is getting yourself distracted by meeting new people, making friends, watching movies, and exploring new places.”

“Whenever you feel low try to communicate with friends, family and the university, you will feel better.”

“Get involved with people in university. Take part in events. Explore the city.”

“It isn’t easy, trust me when I say so... homesickness is real. The best way to cope with it is to always be in touch. Make friends – in accommodation, university or online. Open up to people. You’re not alone!”

“Make friends, talk with people with similar taste. Try different activities.”

“Meet new people, get into a society, go to uni events, interact opportunities”

Moving home can be a big adjustment, no matter how far away from home you move. There’s support available if you ever feel you need a helping hand, or just want someone to speak to.
