Kareem Beckett-Edwards is in his second year of Podcast & Digital Journalism at the London School of Film, Media and Design. From hands-on classes to getting involved in societies and events, Kareem has embraced every opportunity to learn, connect, and grow at UWL.
"All of my lecturers have been amazing. They bring such great energy to teaching. Lessons are fun, and if you don’t understand something, they’re always there to help."
For Kareem, making the most of university life has been about more than lectures. Getting involved with the Students’ Union and attending events has helped him build friendships, gain confidence, and feel part of the wider campus community.
"The SU does a really good job with societies and events that connect with us as young adults, they try different ways to engage with us outside of lectures, and that really gets students more active and involved"
Being a course rep has also added another layer to Kareem’s journey. It’s given him a chance to influence his course experience while developing leadership and communication skills.
"The best part is seeing how feedback works, you give input, the lecturers take it on board, and then you see the positive changes come through. "
Looking back, Kareem can see how much he’s grown since starting university. With guest lecturers, workshops, and plenty of opportunities to get involved, Kareem feels UWL is setting him up not just for a successful degree, but for the next steps in his career.
For anyone starting their journey at UWL, Kareem’s advice is simple: get involved, connect, and make the most of every opportunity. Want to get involved with your SU? Find out more here.
