From Drag to DJs: All the ways students have been involved in Freshers

UWL has a lively community of students, ready to get involved at every opportunity! We made sure to pack your Freshers with tons of events that showcase students. Let's have a look at some of the talent we saw...

Black Excellence Night kicked off Freshers by showcasing talented black artists within our university. The talent included musicians and dancers who took over Freddie's for a night of live entertainment!

"It was a great event, the acts were absolutely amazing. We had a variety of acts, such as dancers, rappers and singers. And the Caribbean food was amazing!” Sharnelle, Student + Performer at Black Excellence Night

LCM Sessions returned for a special Freshers show, with musicians from the London College of Music (at UWL) taking to the stage to show what they do best. It was the perfect opportunity to enjoy live music and discover what goes on in our music school.

Bringing it over to our Sports Teams, they hosted trial sessions for all students interested in joining, so they could get a taste of the sport before committing. Our teams must have made a huge impression at Freshers Fair because the turnout was huge! After giving all their energy at the taster sessions, everyone headed down to Freddie's, for a social hosted by Cheerleading. It was the perfect end to the night; giving all the new members a chance to meet and get to know each other!

Our own alumni came back to UWL to host a drag event! Twerkish Delight put on a Drag Show, including iconic performances, bingo and lots of prizes. There wasn't a minute of silence and no one could help but become invested in the show.

Another one of our Sports Teams took over Freddie's to host an ABBA night! Netball threw "The Winner Takes it (B)all" - a fundraiser with an iconic pop theme. The team created a quiz for the evening and everyone took part in karaoke. It was safe to say the 70s vibes were in the air.

Student radio station, Blast Radio, brought together their best DJs for a night of House and Garage music. They showed off their skills, and what you can expect for the station this year.
