This year, Refreshers saw an event brought to life by a Sports Club determined to do some good. The UWL Netball Team held a Valentine’s Masquerade Ball, with the aim of raising money for Women’s Aid.
In the photo below you can see Nell (on the right), the Netball Events Manager who put the night together & Amy (left) who helped as part of the committee.
This year, our Netball team wanted to put on a night to remember for Valentine’s Day and share the love by making it a fundraiser. So, on the 15th February they held a Masquerade Ball in Freddie’s! The event was a hit, with it selling out so quickly we had to make it even bigger. Everyone came dressed to impress, Phantom of the Opera style, in dramatic masks & glamorous outfits.
The night was packed full of excitement with a DJ, photobooth & raffle! Students could donate to Women’s Aid to be entered into the raffle to win prizes like cinema tickets or a bed & breakfast experience. Overall, almost £800 was raised for Women’s Aid – an amount that will make a difference to so many lives. The team were honoured to be able to contribute to such an amazing cause:
"One of our main aims as a committee this year was to do more charity work. We wanted to add our own personality to it, so we thought holding a masquerade ball would be perfect, as it combined our love for events with helping those in need. Our whole team voted on the charity Women's Aid to raise money for, as they do amazing work. We are so thankful to everyone who attended & contributed to the charity, through donations, ticket sales & the raffle"
Women’s Aid is a national charity working to end domestic abuse against women & children.
