Your VP of Activities threw another successful Clothes Swap at the Students' Union to promote sustainability.
Students came along to refresh their wardrobe as well as donate the clothes they don't use to a new home. Yash worked hard in the build up to the event, encouraging students to sort through their wardrobes, in order to give a new life to anything they don't wear. This is an amazing initiative to prolong the length of time items are used, which boosts the two most beneficial parts of the famous phrase; reduce and reuse.
Another incredible benefit for everyone that comes along is that it's completely free. We hope this helps every attendee to save some money and still enjoy 'shopping'!
We saw an astounding 55kg of clothes be rehomed, avoiding up to 35,000 litres of water being used to create new clothing and a reduction of up to 220kg of greenhouse gases (CO2e).
Whilst at the event, students shared their tips for shopping sustainably:
"Donate to charities so that clothes can get the most life out of them as possible"
"Shop at charity shops, they're the best thing"
By far, everyone's favourite place to buy and sell clothes was Vinted! This comes as no surprise, considering how easy and affordable the app is - but remember to still visit your local charity shops for the best finds!
See you at the next Clothes Swap ♻️
