Refreshers was bigger and better than ever, with over 20 events to keep students busy and involved! UWLSU thrive off seeing everyone having fun and taking opportunities to throw themselves into what uni life is all about.
Let's take a look at our highlights...
LGBTQ+ History Month
We celebrated LGBTQ+ History over the month of February, by tying in some key events into our Refreshers line up!
🎨 The week kicked off with a 'Pride Crafternoon', where students came along to create pronoun badges, make bracelets and paint tote bags.
🥂 Slay + Sip brought students together in Freddie's to paint along with 'Miss Gendered' - our drag queen host. Everyone threw themselves into the fun and filled their canvases with art!
🏳️🌈 It's important to educate ourselves on the history of the community and queer culture. We ran an LGBTQ+ History Month Seminar, where students could learn more about the history of the queer community and discuss current topics and how they might effect them.
The Cuddle Club
What's better for your mood than cuddling cute dogs?
We opened a Puppy Room for the day! Where students could come in and spend some time playing with dogs. It was the perfect chance to bring some joy into your day and look after your wellbeing.
'The Cuddle Club' is an organisation that brings the benefits of therapy dogs to everyone! All the dogs involved in their events are loved and looked after by their owners, so they go home every day to a loving home. 🐶
Opening Night: Dynamic Duos
Our Refreshers club night was hosted by UWL Netball, who took over Freddie's for a themed Valentine's party. Students came dressed up at their favourite Dynamic Duos, and we saw it all from Mario + Luigi to Angels + Devils.
The event was in aid of Women's Aid and the Netball team hosted a raffle, as will as donating ticket proceeds to charity. 💜
Cultural Fair
Cultural Fair brought together UWL's cultural societies and small businesses! We welcomed students in to learn more about other's cultures, have the opportunity to join societies and shop different products. The fair brought a buzz on campus as everyone enjoyed chatting and browsing.
We had the best time hosting Refreshers for you this year! Thank you to every single person who came along and threw themselves into the fun - it wouldn't happen without you.
