UWLSU Umbrella Installation in Partnership with the ADHD Foundation
We’re proud to share that UWLSU has teamed up with the ADHD Foundation to bring the Neurodiversity Umbrella Project to campus. This colourful display of umbrellas is more than just visually appealing—it’s a symbol of inclusivity, celebrating neurodiversity and the uniqueness of how we all think and learn.
What does the Umbrellas represent?
The ADHD Foundation’s Neurodiversity Umbrella Project is a national initiative designed to raise awareness about neurodiversity and celebrate the strengths of those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other learning differences.
The umbrellas, each representing the many minds that see and experience the world differently, there to remind us that diversity in thinking is a strength to be embraced. The umbrellas represent neurodiversity as an ‘umbrella’ term that covers various learning differences. This installation also serves as a public symbol of our commitment to creating an inclusive environment where everyone is valued. The umbrellas highlight the protective nature of our community and the importance of supporting each other, especially those with neurodiverse conditions. They also showcase the resilience, creativity, and unique perspectives that neurodiverse individuals bring to our university and society.
Supporting Neurodiversity at UWL
The University of West London is dedicated to ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive. The UWL Disability Team plays a vital role in identifying and providing support for students with disabilities, including those with neurodiverse conditions such as ADHD, autism, and dyslexia. The Disability Team works closely with students to assess their individual needs and develop tailored support plans that may include academic adjustments, assistive technologies, and personalised guidance.
How to Access Support
If you’re a student who could benefit from this support or know someone who might, the UWL Disability Team is here to help. They offer a range of services designed to remove barriers to learning and ensure that all students have equal opportunities to succeed. You can learn more about the services they offer and how to get in touch with the team by visiting UWL Disability Support.
Join Us in Raising Awareness
We invite all students, staff, and visitors to take a moment to enjoy the installation, reflect on the importance of neurodiversity, and engage in conversations about how we can all contribute to a more inclusive community. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to promote awareness, acceptance, and support for neurodiversity at UWLSU.
