UWLSU x V Team Clothes Swap Success!

The UWLSU x V Team collaboration took over Freddie’s to give students and staff a sustainable way to refresh their wardrobe.

For one day, Freddie’s was transformed into a thrifter’s dream, with rails of clothes lined up for anyone to shop! With one amazing twist – all of these clothes were donated by the UWL community and completely free.

This idea was brought to life by the Volunteering Team and Yash (VP of Activities) to promote sustainability and lengthen the life of our preloved items. So, the Clothes Swap was born! This imaginative initiative engaged people from all over the university, students and staff alike. We saw 102 people come along to join in, with a massive 215.5lbs of clothes being rehomed. Giving these clothes another life means that 43.49kg of CO2e was saved, compared to if the clothes were sent to landfill.

“It was great to collaborate with the V Team & have all their help on this event. I’m so happy everyone enjoyed it & I know they’ll look stylish in their new clothes.” Yash Arora, VP of Activities

"There are so many reasons I wanted to volunteer at the clothes swap. Firstly events like this contribute to reducing textile waste by encouraging people to reuse and recycle clothing. It supports the community and for some people, volunteering at a clothes swap event allows them to indulge in their passion for fashion and style, they can help organize and curate the event, creating an enjoyable experience for participants. Volunteering provides an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who share an interest in sustainable fashion, plus it offers valuable experience and skills that can be added to a resume or used in future endeavors." Jemish Rameshbhai Viradiya, Student Volunteer

Needless to say, this is an incredibly positive initiative that we are proud to have collaborated with the Volunteering Team on. Thank you to everyone who came along, and a special shout out goes out to the student volunteers who helped out on the day!
