When Minal Sirigiri arrived in the UK to start her MSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the School of Computing and Engineering, she wasn’t sure what to expect. But from her very first day, she knew she’d made the right choice.

"Since the first day I came here, everything has been so smooth. Any issue I have, I have so many people to help me."
Getting involved and growing confidence

Minal is determined to make the most of every opportunity that comes her way. She’s the Course Rep for her programme, a role that’s helped her connect with classmates and staff. That supportive, approachable attitude is something she says she’s developed more since joining UWL.

"People in my class know that I’m the Course Rep, so they come to me for help. I try to be as helpful as I can."
"Back home, I was very introverted and didn’t speak unless someone spoke to me first. Being here, I’ve realised the importance of networking and socialising, it’s helping me grow both academically and personally."
Looking ahead

From a self-described introvert to a confident student leader, Minal’s time at UWL is shaping into a year of growth, confidence and connection, proof that sometimes, one year really is enough to make a big difference. When asked what advice she’d give to new students, Minal doesn’t hesitate:

"Just do what feels right for you. Everything will work out if you keep working hard."
